What does the base look like?

This is what our base looks like

YWAM Rogaland is based on the beach of Sola.

The base has a big classroom, a dininghall, a livingroom, a big kitchen, several offices and meeting rooms and 21 bedrooms.

Each bedroom has space for 2-5 people and has it's own bathroom with shower and toilet.

What should I pack for living in Norway? Outreach? What is the climate like in Norway?

The climate is coastal with cold rainy winters and cool summers. Temperatures vary from –10 Celsius (-10F) in the winter and 25 Celsius degrees (77F) in the summer. This is our list of general recommendations for things to bring;

  • Raincoat (umbrella`s tend to fly away and break easily)

  • Hiking boots

  • Backpack 65+ liters (suitcases are difficult to travel with on outreach)

  • One smaller backpack for daily use

  • Winter clothes

  • Swim clothes (we are located on the beach)

  • Layers (instead of wearing one thick sweater, wear layers so you can remove layers of clothing when needed)

  • Indoor shoes

  • One nicer outfit for graduations and other parties (Norwegians like to dress fancy)

  • Water bottle

More detailed packing lists will be provided by the school leaders.

Is it possible for me to visit and stay at the base?

We don't operate as a hotel, however if you are associated with YWAM we do have a certain amount of guest rooms depending on the occupation of the building and school size. Contact us for prices and availability.

School related questions

How big are your schools?

This changes a lot per season, however on average;

  • BCC; 15-20 students

  • Backpack DTS; 30-40 students

  • Wind & Waves DTS + Reach DTS; 15 students per school

Where do we go on outreach?

Location changes between the different schools and tracks. Outreach locations are prayerfully considered and evaluated by DTS staff and leadership team. Locations are revealed during the first month of DTS. So, we can't really answer this question, you will just have to wait and see.

What do your schools cost and what is included?

We have different prices for the different schools and tracks (If applicable) and your country of origin, see school details for the current prices.

When is the deadline to apply for schools?

We don’t have a strict deadline for any of our schools. Our general idea of a deadline is the day the school starts. However, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible so we can look trough your application etc.

What level of English should I be at to take a school? Do I need to learn Norwegian?

All classes and meetings we have are in English as well as our main communication at the base. You don`t have to be an expert in English or know grammar very well. But a basic ability to speak, read and write in English would be recommended to take one of our schools.

You do not need to learn Norwegian to take a school here. However, if you are planning on staying in Norway for a longer period of time, it can be helpful to learn the language. Norwegians tend to have a good understanding of English as they learn it from a young age.

Can you combine schools with work or study?

The different schools can be quite intense, so you can not do a study or work beside your school here at YWAM Rogaland. As you are working on and growing in your relationship with God, we believe that should be your main focus.

What are the age restrictions for schools?

We don’t have an official age limit, but if you are under the age of 18 and apply for one of our schools, you will need parental consent.
If you are over the age of 35, you are very welcome to apply to one of our schools. However, we do ask people to consider if a Crossroads DTS (CDTS) or Family DTS (FDTS) at one of the other YWAM locations in Norway might be a better fit for you. Reach out to us if you have questions regarding this or need some help finding a school.

Do I need a visa to take a school?

If you are living in Europe and in the Schengen area you won’t need a visa. If you are from any other country, you will most likely need a visa. It is your responsibility to research which visa you would need etc.

Even though you are from Europe or Schengen, you might still need a visa for outreach. Information about this will be communicated during the course of the school by your school leader or outreach leader.

Do I need to be in a certain physical shape to do a DTS?

There isn’t a certain physical shape you need to be in, but be aware that you can expect a variety of hikes and physical activity during your school.
